Sister Burbidge at the seashore

On Saturday we took the train to Egnach and walked to the seashore on the Boden See. I guess it's called Lake Constance in Switzerland, and the Boden See or Bodensee in Germany. So since we are in the Zurich Switzerland mission (which takes in a bit of southern Germany) I think I'll start calling it Lake Constance. I think it's a prettier name!

We were attending a Young Single Adult "BBQ" in Egnach, which had been scheduled at the beginning of the summer, but by the time July 25th rolled around, everyyone was on vacation! But Elder Burbidge and I went anyway, and the rainy overcast morning turned into a beautiful bright sunny day! We enjoyed watching the sailboats, ferries, swimmers, and eating our homemade bread pudding!

Our New Grandson, Chad Hudson Burbidge

We are grateful for the safe arrival of our new Grandson, Chad. He is so beautiful! Congratulations Barrett and Brandi, Cole and Bella. Your lives will never be the same. Your new baby brother is amazing!

Our Apartment in St.Gallen

We finally took some pictures of our Apartment in St.Gallen. We are very comfortable here, and feel fortunate to be living in such modern circumstances.

Couch and Dining Room Table

This is our living room. The "Coffee Table" can also be used as a small dining room table that can be lowered or raised by a hand crank on the side. We carry our food into this room at mealtime.

Food Preparation Area

We have everything we need in this small space where we prepare our food. It's amazing how much you can put into a compact space! We usually take turns in the kitchen since there isn't enough room for two people to turn around in!

Bedroom

Our bed fills the entire room, but there are large windows on one wall, and a triple-sized closet on another wall.

The bed can be raised up against the wall so we can set up tables and chairs for classes, meals, etc. if we ever host a large group here at the apartment.

Clouds

Now we understand why Norwin's mother, Norma, was so intrigued by clouds! Her Grandfather, Jakob Tueller, was from Switzerland! (Remember to double click on the picture, and notice the relationship of the buildings and mountains to the clouds!)

Chur Mountains

We traveled to Chur,the oldest town in Switzerland, and on the right bank of the
Rhein River, for our Missionary Zone Conference this month. When we stepped off the train at the Train Station, we had definitely made entrance into another "zone"! Awe-stricken, we somehow made our way to our next leg of the trip - the bus! But not without taking a few pictures first! By the way, it's pronounced "Koor" in case you were wondering!

Chur, Switzerland at 9:00 am

At 9:00 am we began our trek from the bus stop to the building where the Chur Branch meets for church. The sun was bright, the mountains were towering above us on every side, the atmosphere was very cosmopolitan and I felt for a brief moment that I was in Santa Fe, New Mexico! I hurriedly snapped a picture of the most convenient mountain, and in the process accidently caught the sun's image!

The Church Meetinghouse in Chur is on the 3rd floor of a building in the center of town, and down a long hallway past a cabinet shop. The walls were lined with antique "Schranks" of all sizes, colors and styles. A unique way to begin our first experience in Chur!

Hanger System

We were impressed with this hanger system in the church meetinghouse in Chur. The efficient use of space and the high quality of the materials is typical of Switzerland.

Barb and Bob Seegmiller

We had the neatest visit from Dayton's parents, Barbara and Bob Seegmiller! They were attending a conference on Arthritis in connection with Bob's research studies as a faculty member of BYU. They were in Switzerland for 10 days, and they took time to come and visit us in St.Gallen where Barb's Grandfather was born. Before they came to St.Gallen, they were in the Western, or French, part of Switzerland, visited Bern where Barbara's Grandmother lived, and then visited the Basel area.

Rhein River Valley

We participated in a Young Single Adult Service Project in the Rhein River Valley at a place called Grusch. The headwaters of the Rhein River begin in the Alps and then run through this valley where we were today, then into the Baden See (Lake Constance) just outside of St.Gallen, then it travels into the Basel area (Northwest Switzerland) before turning North and traveling up into Germany.

BBQ at Lunchtime

The JAE's spent the morning clearing plants and gunk from the stream, fortifying the hillside with rope netting, and trimming overgrown trees on the pathways. Afterwards, we enjoyed a BBQ. Double click on the picture to see the Park Ranger slicing the bread.
